Rosedale, MD Transgender Attack Reveals Racism Among So Called Open Minded LGBT Community

Hello everyone

Attack On Chrissy Polis

In My previous note about this located here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150169546117043&set=a.10150169545867043.302871.26659417042&type=1#!/note.php?note_id=10150164972706751. I make no attempt to hide my disgust at the women who assaulted Ms. Polis, who had been living as a transgender woman. Many comments made about her gender I felt were insensitive and uncalled for, it was downright mean to have people from the gay and lesbian community and possible allies say terrible things about Ms. Polis not being able to use the women's bathroom. However, someone pointed out that she could've been beaten up for using the men's room too. As a gay man, my gender is constantly brought to the forefront because of the fact that I like other men. It is called into question in regard to marriage, and the different things that are given according to marital status. In fact, many times when trans gender individuals sue in regard to discrimination, sex discrimination is a technicality that they may win on. I believe that blacks, women and LGBT people would understand that this is invidious.

From Gender To Race

Knowing that the two women were black wasn't an issue for me, their senseless violence was. After seeing the video, I didn't see any color but one: RED! I also thought that the race of the two attackers was Puerto Rican until I saw comments like:

Damn niggers, always jumping someone from drknockerzs

Typical Ghetto Nigger Trash.... they're always bad ass when there's 3 or more on ONE!!!! from closer37

Dude I just wanna jump in there and kick those two nigger bitches asses! *POW!!!!!* from PawzNClawz09

She's a young lady you stupid nigger loving minimum wage loser! HitGirlinLatex

NIGGERS are typically homophobic- especially against us whites. The lady being attacked is a beautiful white and niggers see a vision of white beauty and they attack like fucking stupid apes! HitGirlinLatex

My reply to Drknockers first comment: I am a black gay male and I resent the comment you posted. It is terrible when in 2011 this sentiment is being voiced. I seriously doubt you would've said the same thing if the attacker had been white or Asian, you would've condemned the VIOLENCE and not the race of the attackers. I myself am planning on fighting for trans rights after marriage passes in NY, you should reconsider your comment It's terrible that I even HAVE to explain this

Some of my other responses:
So..... Is this supposed to be a transgender rights thing, or just a basic rights of all human beings thing to be free from this type of abuse? Why pigeonhole it into just the one category? We're all more alike than we are different. Much love crabboyjimmy

@crabboyjimmy I like that approach but we have to spell it out in law or applying it becomes too difficult and court gets involved

My response to:  Now I can finally say this : FUCKING BLACK PEOPLE. riggsrae06

Okay. While I understand your rage at their stereotypical aggressive behavior. I don't agree with what you said because I am not like this. I myself am a big black man and people look at me as if I were going to mug them. Just as the assault wasn't okay. This is not okay either. To say that about black people is no worse than denying me, as a gay black man the right to marry, to deny my TRANSGENDERED BROTHERS AND SISTERS their rights to live openly and honestly. Again, I understand your frustration, but we can channel our anger at the ACT of violence, not the RACE of the person who commited this terrible thing. Now I am leaving a message for them, I would encourage you to do the same too. If this were an attack by a white, Asian or Hispanic woman upon her, it wouldn't make it any less shocking and appalling. I hope you've reconsidered this terrible comment to the black people who fight for equal rights for LGBT and other minorities.

And generally I said to every racist a**h(le on the page:
As a black gay man, I am appalled at some of the racism being post about this video. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. In NY, I am working on marriage equality and after that is passed, I hope to work on Gender protection bills that will protect other transmen & women from being victimized like this. I am black. I am a gay man. I have never been to jail, If this were done by another race, you would've condemned the violence only. You should be ashamed of yourselves

I knew they felt sorry for the victim of this crime, but they were no different from the attackers because they used the same ignorance in the area of race that these two used in the area of transphobia.I couldn't believe it. It was like I was in a twilight zone where people were progressive in one way but lacking in another. For me, it was as bad as living in my childhood all over again, where I wasn't black enough because I know about Romer v. Evans and not enough about Faith Evans discography. It was as bad as being told I wasn't black enough because I didn't have a litter of kids and a Baby's Mama. Sometimes, I feel as if my black community doesn't prize education and dogs it down to an inferior 'white' status. WHAT IS WRONG WITH A BLACK MAN BEING EDUCATED? WHAT'S WRONG WITH ANYONE BEING EDUCATED?

Some positive commets:
While this was a horrible attack, it doesn't call for all of the derogatory name calling. It just put you on the same idiotic, subhuman level as the two that attacked the girl. As for the attackers, I hope the two get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And I hope the trans girl gets to continue living the lifestyle she chooses. But as a side note, it is not only blacks who act irrationally or irresponsibly or aggressively. Every ethnic group has its bad apples.

I am glad that there are some other people who had stood up to the racism and in fact below is a note about the dripping racism that was shown on the board. I hated hearing the backwards comments--I would've sworn this was out of a 1905 propaganda film about how the black race wants to 'annihilate the white race'--civil rights has come, interracial marriage has come and no race is in any danger of extinction. Loving v. Virginia was not only the right to marry, but the right to live your life as an open couple without being penalized under the law. The same place where gay rights were: people vomiting in their cornflakes when it's mentioned like in 2000, now transgender rights are there and as I see trans men and women being embarrassed and humiliated in the public arena, I have to take up the cause for the dignity and respect of my trans brothers and sisters.

Some examples:

A transwoman named Laura is in the hospital for a checkup. When she is called she is called by her male name, and all eyes turn to her

Someone assaults a trans woman and she is afraid to go to the hospital because she is afraid she will be treated differently when she is revealed to have some of her male parts.

From Race to GENDA

GENDA, Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act has been introduced and reintroduced like SONDA (introduced in 1971 and finally passed in 2002). Honestly, I haven't worked on GENDA and that is an area I haven't researched and things, but the one reservation I have--rather wonder how I will handle this objection of: You're not trans you'll never know. I hope to handle it by saying: STFU, you have an ally so you better let me help you. I have to say that maybe some trans people may think: What is this guy doing here working OUR issue? Well, I am a man who believe in family and I feel the trans community are brothers and sisters, as well as my lesbian and bisexual sisters and brothers. I want to make sure that this is passed so that trans people in NY can see a decline of transphobic incidents like the one in Rosedale. I will not rest until GENDA is passed. If anyone has more info on GENDA please let me know!
