US Senate Passes ENDA!!!

Hey!!! It’s the Spencer Hamilton Blog and you are in for a treat!!! I am excited that ENDA has passed the Senate 64-32. I guess the Democrats have grown a pair and said that this is the time to do the work and give the House Republicans a chance to redeem themselves by passing it—I remember the VAWA fight and it was a LONG LONG time that it was waiting before it was passed. Same with immigration reform but of course we have to push the Republicans on that as well as Democrats to continue making noise on the bill   ENDA has been long debated and of course the religious right has been spreading nothing but lies about the bill saying that somehow you will have to hire John and call him Jane and what kind of example will that set for kids, they use graphics like this to bred a fear in people that somehow it will be a special right that will be forced on them if they can’t fire gay people just because they’re gay. It has become a gleeful thing when gay and lesbian bisexual a...

Races I'm Watching (2013 & 14)

Some Elections I’m watching this year Cory Booker is up according to a poll by 35 points among likely voters while Democrat Terry McAuliffe has a 7 point lead last I checked. These two Democrats are running for Senator and Governor. Cory Booker is the mayor of Newark, NJ and people were thinking he’s going to run against Chris Christie. He said “I’m going to have to work with my Governor” and I thought that’s all true and that we would have to as a mayor because all levels of government have to work together to get things done. Cory Booker I thought “he’s a rising star here” and sure enough as I live and breathe here is Booker running for the seat that was vacated with the death of the previous Senator, a Democrat. After winning the Democratic nod, he now is facing off against Lonegan, who has a nod from Christie. Lonegan is not helping himself especially when he pulled a John McHenry when he said that if you get sick, you’re on your own. Personally, I feel that while there is a l...

Bullying in General vs. LGBT bullying

I wrote this because I am sick of people talking about bullying in general without  understanding that the way society views the LGBT community is fuel for the fire of bullying, and thus, it gives the bullies of Jamie Rodemeyer a pass to bully him. =================== Hello I am a Buffalonian and I am shocked by the reception of Jamie Rodemeyer's death to the kids that bullied him. I am writing to call attention to the fact that people are forgetting ONE SIMPLE TRUTH. That Jamie identified as gay. Gay students are bullied disproportionately (more often) than their straight counterparts We have to have not only policies from our schools, but in our communities that bullying based on any reason--AND LIST THEM--is not tolerated. Leaving sexual orientation and gender identity out of bullying policies and not even ACKNOWLEDGING that this is a reason gives other students a free pass to bully LGBT students Parents getting involved in their child's education can h...
