Marriage Equality Act: My Story

When I came out I was 19, and by 21 I was in a 2 year struggle to deal with my faith and sexuality, having been on opposite sides of myself to the exclusion of the other. By 23, I met a man that I later wanted to marry, but that relationship would end. However, in between is the amazing story because it would help shape me to take on other issues. In November 2010 I had just come back to the fold of LGBT activism as I began to sever ties with religious groups who made me feel as if my faith and sexuality were at odds, and reconnected to an old friend, Kitty Lambert & Cheryle Rudd…now Lambert-Rudds (Whom I refer to affectionately as Grandma Kitty & Grandma Cheryle) it was a tough time as they had endured harassment and not knowing of my struggle as I had proven myself, she was skeptical of my wanting to be involved. Some had come pretending to be for the cause but fell away after they were asked to circulate letters, petitions, make calls or do something that showed they wer...

10 Questions the Supreme Court Asked in Obergefell v Hodges Marriage Case

·       Chief Justice Roberts asked whether expanding marriage to include gay couples would lead to marriage’s redefinition We’ve already redefined marriage: Did Ginsburg’s Dad get a dowry for her? Did Elena Kagan get raped by her husband and have to marry her? Was Sotomayor a virgin on her wedding day? Better yet, why not stone Calista Gingrich now? Can Ginny Thomas be sued under her own name? Can Alito’s wife own property in her own name? These already show that we’ve redefined marriage today as a union of equals rather than societally defined roles that are dictated to us. The only definition of marriage is between the two people in it ·          Justice Kennedy expressed concern about whether it was prudent for the Supreme Court to step in and change the definition of an institution that was as old, to use his language as “millennia.” In short, he asked whether it was is imprudent and unwise to sugg...

The Whamma in Alabama!!!

So, you’re looking at Alabama and wondering: What the heck is going on? Well let me learn you something, but listen closely. So in 1996, Congress passed DOMA because Hawaii almost recognized gay marriage or at least an opinion from the state’s Supreme Court said so. In 1998, the crisis was averted as the people passed a law saying that the Legislature can define marriage. So in 2003, the Goodridge decision out of Massachussetts came along and threatened to have everyone marry there and go to New York, Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, wherever they would go and seek recognition…Not so fast gays…you’re living in a DOMA enforced state, we don’t have to recognize gays and lezzies getting married round these parts. Not only that we passed the Alabama Sanctity of Marriage Act so that’s a double bitchslap! Meanwhile, a gay couple had to be in legal limbo when Dr. Paul Hard and his mother in law were in a legal battle to be recognized as his husband So gays and lezzies couldn’t ...

The Booing of Stephen Snyder-Hill

Hey all, Welcome to the Spencer Hamilton Blog! http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-hidden-man-20131229-dto,0,4485047.htmlstory#ixzz2ov0kNEhU ” I recently found an article from a facebook friend of mine Steven Hill now Snyder-Hill, and I’m brought back to a day in September 2011 when the GOP were holding a primary debate. Who would be the triumphant candidate? , Herman “Godfather” Cain, Rick “Frothy” Santorum, Michelle “Batshit” Bachmann, Newt Swingrich or the Ron Paul EVOLution? Steven Hill, on duty in Iraq close to the time DADT repeal would be fully done had   a question that needed asking, one that could determine whether or not Steven Hill would have a future in the US Army What happened next was shocking. The Question: In 2010, when I was deployed to Iraq, I had to lie about who I was because I'm a gay soldier and I didn't want to lose my job. My question is, under one of your presidencies, do you intend to circumvent the progress that's been made for gay a...

News Roundup Marriage in New Mexico, Voter ID Challenges in TX and NC, New welcomes to the Family

In New Mexico there’s a flurry going on about marriage equality and whether or not the issuing of marriage licenses is legal or not. New Mexico has a gender neutral marriage law so it’s anyone’s guess. Prior to this, I did a video that talked about the NM Supreme Court being asked to intervene to interpret the law and grant marriage equality In that state. Meanwhile, a woman dying of a terminal illness wants to marry her partner. The Governor of that state has also called for a vote to send a ban on marriage equality to the people saying it is better decided by the people of the state…to me that sounds like the slavery dodge when voters said: we’ll be slave state or we’ll be free…if anyone doesn’t know what Bleeding Kansas is, it’s simply when Missouri said we’ll kill all the abolitionists and hopefully that’ll be a slave state too. It backfired as voters called it a free state and all those lives were lost. So, while it’s a different situation an...

Does Ken Mehlman Deserve A Second Chance?

The video companion is here: http://youtu.be/1V7sFXar4Ts Remember these guys: Ed Schrock and his voice personal ad? Larry Craig and his wide stance? Ted Haggard’s meth and man ass? George Alan Rekers and his rentboy scandal? What about that Puerto Rican Senator Roberto Arango who was “documenting his weight loss” (I personally wonder what his naked exposed butt hole has to do with weight loss, I guess it could take a cannon and now it could hardly take a cucumber). This was exposed to the media after pushing a constitutional amendment banning marriage? A local example: Craigslist Chris Lee who was looking for trans women to have sex with. Then there’s Ken Mehlman…a man who basically was successful in getting 11 states to put bans in their constitutions, and when you really think about it, this was only the start of the backlash that would begin after Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court said that a statute was unconstitutional that prohibited gay couples from marrying. In a 4-3 de...

Marriage Equality Affirmed and Democrats have a good year!!!

This year was a great year for marriage and Democrats: Let's take a look at some of the things that happened during the 2012 Elections:  ME Q1 rejected their new marriage law by a 57-43% margin, by 14 points in 2009. MD like ME and WA passed a Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom Act that was put on the ballot promptly by opponents of marriage equality. Those measures are Q6 and R74 MN in May 2011 needed a simple majority in both chambers of the Legislature (37-27 in the Senate and 70-62 in the House) to pass a constitutional amendment to the people “resolving” the question of gay marriage. Like NC they have a statute that is in place regardless. That statute is being challenged in the Benderson v. Alvarez case and could be overturned. The Catholic Church in MN said that this is why we need Amendment 1 in MN because of the challenged statute. Something of note is Sen Dibble who said I can’t see how anyone could think that my marriage would hurt someone else. Rep...

The Definition of Family

Image
I will forever wonder why people feel as if family is only defined by those who are related to us by blood or adoption. Adoption usually is a legal process in which a child under 18 becomes a part of your family, often called a forever family. Yet, I also say that this is not the only definition of adoption, because I've adopted people into my family and no legal paperwork has been filled out. It is because family to me is not solely defined on if we all look alike or are related by blood. I often found that family is a closeness, indicated by your willingness to become a part of a family, like church, fraternities, sororities, groups of people who have one or or more things in common and are active in their lives on a consistent basis. I have to say that I have family that folks at the American Family Council would say are not my family. As crazy as my Lovey's family is, I consider them family only because I'm there and I'll have to deal with them if Darryl and ...

Black LGBT and Larger Black Community Should Denounce Anti Gay Black Leaders

Image
In NC, anti gay black pastors and leaders have said simply that because most of the NC State Government believe as they do that marriage is between a man and a woman, that this ideal should be placed in the state's Founding Document. What's ironic is that the SAME ONES proposing this amendment put a voter ID bill on the Governor's desk which was promptly vetoed. this law would've kept the congregations represented away from the polls to vote May 8th on the proposed amendment if enacted immediately. It would've affected so many seniors, out of state students, and low income individuals who don't usually get state or government issue-ID. I've railed against theocratic anti gay Christians who believe that religious laws should be upheld just because they're religious and people have told me: We're not all like that. I am not the one you need to tell that to. Tell it to Tony Perkins and Patrick Wooten the 'Diaper Pastor' the "Prolific...

Reacting to NOM's blog and some of the hate contained in it

I am glad that people here think that gay and lesbian people don't deserve rights. All of these comments make it known that you don't really 'love homosexuals' but desire to use the law not to protect marriage, but to subjugate gay and lesbian people and discriminate against them. I'll cite some of the quotes From ag Is there anything we can do in NY to reverse this such as a referendum like CA used? Or if not, can this help a GOP candidate get the Federal Marriage Amendment passed if one wins in 2012? First off, if DOMA is unconstitutional, why would a Federal Marriage Amendment be upheld as constitutional? Marriage has been left to the states via the Tenth Amendment, WhitelighterNY Richard, You are confused if you think that there is an emotional bond of "love" between 2 homosexuals. A homosexual relationship is nothing but a "counterfeit" relationship attempting to imitate the natural state that a "man" and "woman...
