Racism & The Obama Presidency

I saw some footage of an exchange between Louie Gohmert R-TX and AG Eric Holder where Gohmert accused Holder of not taking a Congressional investigation seriously and Holder finally had the spine to stand up to Gohmert and say “You don’t wanna go there, don’t assume that this isn’t important to me” and then Gohmert shot back that Congress was trying to get to the bottom of Fast & Furious where “innocent Mexicans died” of course that was a dig at the administration, don’t confuse it with sincere regard for the Mexicans who were allegedly killed Afterward at an NAACP speech, Holder said “Forget that it’s me, when have you EVER seen an Attorney General Of the United States treated like I was by a House Panel?” Everyone attended knew exactly what he was talking about, it was a dog whistle of a different sort, calling out racism without exactly using the term racism. See, AG Holder and President Obama have often had to be very careful, whether necessarily or not about talking abou...

Educating Prisoners Reduces Recidivism

Gov Cuomo brought forth an initiative that gives incarcerated persons access to tuition free education. Mark Grisanti is mad about it saying that we should focus on tuition aid first. Sen. Grisanti is a criminal defense lawyer and recidivism (going back to jail) is good for business, Geoff Kelly of Artvoice said that we may as well call it (for Grisanti The New York State Lawyer Unemployment Act) That was an apt way to put it. However, considering that it takes $60K to house an incarcerated person and only 5K to educate them it is a good deal not only for the state but for our communities. Incarcerated people after being released must get jobs in the same neighborhoods and situation that they got into trouble in and forgetting the other half of college students being crushed under student loans, let’s just figure out this: It brings tax money to localities, the state and federal governments, the return on investment is very high in the fact that they get a check that goes to pers...

My favorite Beachbody Coaches

Welcome to the Spencer Hamilton Blog! I have been into fitness for quite some time and I have to say that I have had a heck of a journey. I have seen firsthand the gift that fitness can bring and I am amazed at it, I marvel at it. The people who make a living at this are dedicated people who know that gift and simply share it. They share it with those who may not understand the gift they’re giving themselves when they pick up some dumbbells or take a walk around the park or step on a treadmill I want to talk about my two favorite trainers and a 3 rd trainer that I rediscovered after the New Year. 2014 will hold a lot for me, a lot of changes and challenges and I want to be ready for them with a renewed vigor and an upbeat and realistic attitude. So I need to hear people like Eliott Hulse in my ear telling me what I need to know and then applying it to my life. There will be a lot of fears I will need to overcome and Elliott says that we must use our bodies to overcome our fea...

A Tale of Two Carries

A Tale of Two Carries 2013 Likes Carrie is a lot more assertive with her mother and self-assured even though she is a loner and demure. The modernization of the film I’ll take as a fact of life in these kinds of films. I also like how they make her a bit more human in this film although they do it more externally The progression seemed pretty natural to me and I liked how they did it Sue was really nice. I enjoyed how she faced Chris and gave her a piece of her mind, and easily. I liked how Carrie actually could fly and that she emotions regarding Tommy’s death. We really didn’t see that much in the original because maybe she’s just had enough that she didn’t notice that Tommy died   Dislikes Was Carrie slaughtering people or using a touch screen to do it in her prom scene? I didn’t like the physicality of Goretz’s Carrie. It was more like she was a conductor.   Someone said she’s a telekenetics whiz but I say that she’s a novice. Telekenesis is ab...

A Little Talk With A Friend

Hello Dear Spencer Hamilton Blog Reader…and new visitors So this past weekend I decided to help two lovely women the Lambert-Rudds a lesbian couple whom I affectionately call “The Grandmas” put a roof on their house and it was great. I met so many wonderful people and saw a man named Vince in action. He’s a great taskmaster he knows what he’s doing and it helped that son in law Tom was there too and his know how as well as many others who were able to help us. I have to admit I know little to nothing about roofing and I’m not willing to climb up there, but I must admit a few things were conquered that day. After a bunch of denailing some of the boards I went between a space did some on the roof. I was nervous up there and as I’m a tall guy my center of gravity is a little higher so I made sure I did my best to stay safe. It was a wonderful experience seeing the work being done by all of us—some of whom hadn’t gotten there til about noonish and seeing an old friend Andy in town t...

Color Before Character

Hey Welcome to Another Installment in the Spencer Hamilton Blog Now that you've lent me your eyes, I'll get right to it Okay, so today I was at a restaurant and I needed a ride home and sometimes a few of us stop at a restaurant and have a bite when we get paid. Portia who gets a ride home oftentimes gets dropped off steps away from me but when she moved a little further away Marnie takes us still. However, all of a sudden she has a problem and Portia and says that she didn’t want to say anything to me but when I told Bonnie—one of my friends who offered to drop me off at a bus stop because she was going in the opposite direction--I was going with the Marnie and Portia, all of a sudden she mentions that the Marnie said that she can’t take me, then I get home and find out that she said that she was intimidated by me to ever say anything. Huh???? This is an established pattern and all of a sudden you’re intimidated by me? I talk about everything while you’re taking me ...

Voter Suppression Will Backfire...Until Then, GO VOTE!!!

Voter Suppression will backfire, just you wait   So…remember North Carolina VIVA Law? It is now making waves in the state that saw Governor Pat McCrory win last year. This was the chance for the tea leaves to start showing some promising signs of rubber stamping. Voter suppression has been a key prong in the GOP since 2011 when the GOP took states that were very very purple like WI, (full Legislative and Governor) MN (both chambers) ME (Split Legislature and R Governorship) NH (veto proof majority D Governor) and in 2012 when we were celebrating over Obama’s re election something that the GOP had fought so hard to stop. Art Pope was seeing the fruits of his labor pay off when Pat McCrory, routed 4 years ago by Governor Beverly Perdue (no relation) was elected to the NC Legislature. They got to work on abortion bill in a motorcycle safety bill, tort reform, basically a blueprint of ALEC which I’m sure Art Pope has a membership in—kind of model legislation…including Voter I...

Homosexuality and....Abortion????

The conflation or supposed correspondence of homosexuality and abortion is ridiculous to say the least. Gay people aren’t the ones having abortions or the reason for them; it’s like blaming gay people for a divorce of a straight couple without mentioning the fact that fiscal matters, adultery, and irreconcilable differences are the issues behind divorce. In fact I have a video, I’ll annotate it here and show you a video I did where NOM actually takes steps to “protect marriage” But this whole conflation of homosexuality and abortion, pedophilia, breakdown of family doesn’t address anything like the income inequality that brings forth crime, the fact that people are out there starving and don’t see the value in education. It is easy to blame gays or other people which is the simple thing instead of looking at the tough things they’ll have to address before the situation can make progress But again to homosexuality and abortion, after the apparent suicide of Jamie Rodemeyer, I was...

Doug Preisse: Early Voting Shouldn't Accomodate Urban Voters

Early Voting shouldn’t accommodate the urban vote Video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL5KzyCEQ1g Someone told me that I was overreacting and playing the race card AGAIN when Doug Priesse said that Early voting shouldn’t accommodate the urban voting machine. However, what did Presisse mean? One person pulled a statistic that Columbus OH is 61% white, but he couldn’t have meant that if Priesse knew of that statistic. I don’t believe I’m playing the race card when in fact it is being played. It is the truth, they don’t want black people voting because we flood the space with Democrats and if we voted every 2 years, we’d keep the State Government Democratic and boot out these losers who feel that consent of the governed doesn’t apply to them So tell me, those who think I’m overreacting, what did Doug Presisse mean when he said the urban vote? How can you definitively say that he didn’t mean black voters, since often times people associate urban areas with the b...

Letter to a Bigot

Dear Bigot, Let me say this prior to anything, I am not a God hater, I do not hate Christians, I don’t hate the truth. What I do hate is people using misinformation to harm a minority, what I hate is people using junk science to tell people that gay couples can’t raise a child in a great environment. The same people that do that oppose marriage rights oppose civil unions and any kind of relationship recognition. I hate when people compare me loving a man who is close to my age is like marrying a child, pedophiles already marry they just don’t marry children. Necrophiliacs marry but they don’t marry a corpse. Animals can’t be married to humans. Well, one man in KY married his horse but I don’t think it was valid. Polygamous marriages happen but only one partner is recognized legally, like with gay couples it doesn’t stop people from living together they just aren’t recognized as a unit in the eyes of the law. When you place your religious beliefs above my right to live ...

Dan Savage Panzie A-- Controversy, Kill the Gays Pastor

Image
Hello All, Spencer here, Well today I am giving my two cents about Dan Savage Controversy and mention Amendment 1 in NC and MN, as well as a crazy Pastor's plan to 'kill the gays' Dan Savage So Dan Savage is in hot water with the Religious Right...as he often is but who cares? He says that if we ignore all the things about shellfish, menstruation, diet, clothing and other parts of the Bible that modern society conveniently ignores, why can't we do the same thing with homosexuality? I mean, in church there are abominations walking around all over the place, mixed fabrics!!! SHRIMP!!! NON VIRGIN BRIDES GETTING MARRIED!!! Of course, no person in their right minds would marry their rapist...just had to throw that in there. Let's keep in mind that this Assembly was voluntarily attended So, Dan is saying this and then a group of students start walking out because he's bashing the Bible. He says that "You can tell the Bible g...

The Perils of Dating an Addict

Hello,  When I met him, he was--and is--good looking, he had a job, he was smart, and when he asked me: What kind of guy are you looking for? I said: A guy I can enjoy. I have enjoyed him, but there was a bomb hidden under him that I had an idea about, but thought it was in the past. The reality would bear a different story. I remember meeting him May 17 2008 and then having a date the next day at Friday's, Waterfront then hanging at my house for a short while and when he left, I thought: I really like him. I most certainly did. The next two weeks we were together almost every day, I remember just wanting to be close to him all the time and just texting and calling, waiting for another message from him to come through and just lighting up as I saw Darryl's name as the sender of a message. Then it all just crushed me like a weight when he said on March 31st, that he was going into a rehab. I really liked him, I didn't want to let him go so I said I'd wait and we...

Hodge Podge

Image
Hello All, Today I will end up doing a Hodge Podge of posts under different topics. I have a lot to talk about so I'm gonna get right to it Addiction as a Disease--Dis/Ease It is no real news to anyone that talks to me a fair amount of time that I have a boyfriend that is an addict. I love him, he's amazing, but when the issue of addiction comes up, I have to say that I get nervous because I sometimes think that oh no, another rehab. I know I've swore him off many times, but it's easier said than done. I really see him as a man that I will spend the rest of my days with (we have to do something about that smoking of his, but I'm sure we'll figure it out) and I want to raise kids and just live an ordinary civic life like everyone else can. So when I think of addiction as a disease, I think of Chlamydia, Herpes (which is not as big a deal as people make it to be) something that needs a cure. But when I think of Addiction as a disease, I have to say I ...
