Color Before Character

Hey Welcome to Another Installment in the Spencer Hamilton Blog Now that you've lent me your eyes, I'll get right to it Okay, so today I was at a restaurant and I needed a ride home and sometimes a few of us stop at a restaurant and have a bite when we get paid. Portia who gets a ride home oftentimes gets dropped off steps away from me but when she moved a little further away Marnie takes us still. However, all of a sudden she has a problem and Portia and says that she didn’t want to say anything to me but when I told Bonnie—one of my friends who offered to drop me off at a bus stop because she was going in the opposite direction--I was going with the Marnie and Portia, all of a sudden she mentions that the Marnie said that she can’t take me, then I get home and find out that she said that she was intimidated by me to ever say anything. Huh???? This is an established pattern and all of a sudden you’re intimidated by me? I talk about everything while you’re taking me ...

Why The Newsom/Christian Murder IS NOT Like The Trayvonn Martin Murder

I keep hearing about two murders that the right wing are using to say: The media is biased against black perpetrators and white victims because the media didn’t bring a lot of light to the murder of Christopher Lane (2013) and Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian both murdered in 2007.   Results: Of the four charged at the state level, three (Letalvis D. Cobbins, Lemaricus Davidson, and George Thomas) had multiple prior felony convictions. After a jury trial, Lemaricus Davidson was sentenced to death by lethal injection and Letalvis Cobbins and George Thomas were sentenced to life in prison, Cobbins without the possibility of parole and Thomas with the possibility. Vanessa Coleman has been convicted of facilitating the crimes and sentenced to 53 years in prison, and Eric Dewayne Boyd has been convicted of federal charges as accessory after the fact to carjacking and sentenced to 18 years in prison. [4] The state convictions were set aside because of misconduct by the...

B37..There She Goes Again

After the trial and acquittal of George Zimmerman, there was a juror that has made splashes in the media. She is only known as B37 and her jury selection video is here:   ( http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2013/07/zimmerman_trial_juror_b37_why_did_prosecutors_let_her_on_the_trayvon_martin.html ) There is also now talk of unsupervised visits that she had with family and that could sway her decision by a simple comment. Another thing that makes me leery of her is that she said that even though the Stand Your Ground Law wasn’t given as a defense, they still considered simply: did Zimmerman feel as if his life were in danger? She also said that his history of reporting black men to the police wasn’t looked at in the deliberations and further, she denied that race was even a part of it though George is recorded saying: Those fucking punks they always get away. She also said that Martin was responsible for   his own death and that Zimmerman should co...

Trayvon Martin and Me

Image
Hello All, I have seen a lot of injustice, but I have to say that this latest story out of FL really makes my blood boil. James Byrd of MS, along with a gay black man also out of MS hit and dragged behind a truck years later, all because of their race. Now innocent blood cries out for justice, that or Trayvon Martin, a young man who went to the store for some Iced Tea and Skittles, harassed by a man with the last name Zimmerman who looks to be Hispanic, but is described as white. That very fact makes racism an ugly reality all around this nation. I have to say that even if this were a black man who killed a white man, even then I would still decry the killing, however it is of no doubt that his killer would’ve been brought to justice. Let’s face it, as a black man I look at white gay men and think to myself: What the fuck do they know about prejudice? The only thing they know about discrimination is being gay, not black. I have seen people react to me in ways I didn’t un...
